As reported by the US Census Bureau on September 16, 2021, August 2021 saw strong year-over-year growth—demonstrating consumers’ continued willingness to spend and a strong back-to-school (BTS) season against weak BTS demand one year earlier. Compared to 2019 values, August sales were still very strong but represented the second straight month of declining growth, returning to the level seen in May.
