We estimate the impact of the coronavirus on capital expenditure in 2020 and 2021, informed by our comparisons of the pandemic to the Global Financial Crisis of 2007–2009, which represented a similar major disruption to the global economy. We also summarize announcements that US retailers have made so far in 2020 to cut capital expenditure, operating expenses and other financial items due to the coronavirus crisis.
