Insight ReportUS Holiday 2018: Thanksgiving Weekend Sales Creep into Early November Coresight Research November 28, 2018 Executive SummaryFrom Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday, more than 165 million Americans shopped according to a new survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics. Year-over-year traffic during the five-day holiday shopping period is down by about 9 million shoppers, but up about a million when compared to the NRF/Prosper Insights & Analytics forecast published earlier in November. Black Friday has become the traditional start to the holiday shopping spree with family and friends shopping together in the spirit of the holidays. Insight ReportSingles’ Day 2018: Proprietary Coresight Research Data Reveal the Scale of Growth by Category Coresight Research November 26, 2018 Executive SummaryIn this report, we dig into Alibaba’s Tmall Global sales volume on Singles’ Day, using a detailed, proprietary dataset collating information on the top 500 products across 14 different categories on the platform. Diapers and cosmetics were the best-sellers of the categories we tracked, followed by snacks, women’s skincare and infant formula. Very strong unit sales growth reflected pent-up demand for consumer products as buyers waited for sales and promotions on Singles’ Day. We estimate sales of diapers, cosmetics, snacks, skincare, luggage and bags may have been 30–50 times higher than typical daily volumes. Sales promotions differed across categories. Discounts for women’s shoes and diapers were steepest, at 42% and 38% respectively. Most categories offered at least 25% off.
