Highlights from our June US Retail Sales Report: Total US retail sales excluding gasoline and automobiles increased 2.3% year over year in June, weakening from the 2.8% year-over-year rise in May. Furniture and home-furnishing stores sales fell 1.7% year over in June, following May’s 0.7% increase. The clothing sector saw sales slip 1.6% in June, following a 2.3% drop in May and a 3.9% increase in April. Department store retailers posted a sales decline of 5.4%, following May’s 5.2% decline, further worsening from a 0.9% fall in April. In June, nonstore retailers saw sales rise 11.6% year on year, following the 11.7% year over year rise in May but slower than the 12.9% reported in April. This report is for paying subscribers only.
