September 2018 US Same-Store Sales: Costco Continues to Beat Consensus; L Brands Posts Healthy Comparable Sales Growth

Our monthly US Same-Store Sales Report reviews comparable sales metrics reported by Costco, Buckle and Cato.

Highlights from our September US Same-Store Sales report:

  • Costco’s same-store sales growth in September this year was below the growth reported in August but was well ahead of consensus.
  • Costco reported strong growth across all segments including food and sundries, hardlines, softlines and ancillary business.
  • Among the specialty retailers, Buckle’s comparable sales fell by 2.4% year over year in September, compared to a 0.7% decline reported in August 2018. L Brands posted strong positive growth in comps compared to the 1%growth posted in August. Cato’s comps fell marginally.
