August 2019 US Same-Store Sales: Costco Comps Beat Expectations

Our monthly US Same-Store Sales Report reviews comparable sales metrics reported by Costco, Buckle and Cato.

Highlights from our August US Same-Store Sales report:

  • Costco’s global same-store sales growth slowed marginally from July but came in substantially ahead of the consensus estimate. The company’s online growth accelerated to 23.9% in August, from July’s 21.3%.
  • Buckle posted an increase in same-store sales in both the men’s and women’s segments.
  • Cato’s same-store sales growth slowed from 4% in July to 3% in August. The company said August total sales exceeded expectations, but it remains cautiously optimistic for the rest of the year.
