The company was founded in 1930 by George W. Jenkins and has grown to be one of the largest supermarket chains in the U.S. Publix specializes in food retailing, pharmacy services, prepared foods and private‑label products (e.g., GreenWise, Aprons). Publix’s corporate motto historically is “Where Shopping Is a Pleasure.”
