Walgreen Co. (formerly Walgreens Boots Alliance, or WBA) is a leading US drugstore and pharmacy retailer. In March 2025, WBA announced plans to go private through a leveraged buyout led by Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm; this closed in August 2025. WBA was then reorganized into five independent companies, each focused on distinct segments of WBA’s former business—the US retail pharmacy chain (Walgreen Co.), the international retail pharmacy business (The Boots Group), the specialty pharmacy services business (Shields Health Solutions), the home- and postacute-care services business (CareCentrix) and the primary-care clinic business (VillageMD).
