US Independence Day 2019 Preview: Americans Set To Spend $6.8 Billion, Down Slightly from 2018

  • According to the Independence Day spending survey from the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Prosper Insights & Analytics, about 86% of Americans plan to celebrate the 4th of July holiday this year, compared to last year’s 87%. 
  • The NRF projects total spending on food for the holiday this year will be
    $6.78 billion, lower than the past two years. 
  • About 61% of people surveyed plan to attend a cookout or barbecue, while nearly 40% plan to attend fireworks displays. Only 14% of those surveyed said they would travel over the holiday.
  • The average expected spend per person on food will be $73.33 this year, down 2.7% from last year.
